Here I was, sitting in a dark house after a nice day and a nice meal with my son and his friend, watching Shaun of the Dead. The front door opens. The dog goes ballistic, barking and throwing a fit. I get up and close the door. A couple minutes later, my road gate slams and I hear a vehicle tear off down the road. Apparently, someone thought I wasn't here and had intended to rob my home. Next time the "door blows open", guess I need to step outside with a gun. At least I know it's not someone I know because they would know I sit in a dark house all the time! LOL
It was a nice, relaxing day just the same......

That's scary.I suppose now you can leave and be secure in the fact no one will ever come in a darkened house at your place. I trust dogs, so I would have had to go investigate when the dog started barking...good dog!
ReplyDeleteWould the dog bark if you were gone. Or, would he just be happy to have company, licking the intruder to death?
I would have to go and investigate footprints and tire track widths and patterns. Do you think this is the same neighbor who was stealing from you and had tire punctures? If he is still around, I would.
PP, actually think this was a random smash and grab thing for Rx or cash etc. They didn't know who lived here or they'd know we never have lights on.
ReplyDeleteI see. Why don't you ever have lights on? I am just the opposite. There are always lights on here, even in the middle of the night.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness as long as you're alright. That's a scary thought.Bless our animals for the racket they make sometimes!
ReplyDeleteReally dangerous! Could you have some kind of lights on, at least when you are at home? And have your door locked, specially in the evening? - These times all kinds of idiots roam around. You never know what they have in mind. Bless the dog!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that would just piss me off! I have a feeling the dog has their scent now and will be on alert now (not that he wasn't before) but, if they come back he will know them and take a chunk or 2 of hide. I generally have only one light on also (darn elect bill) Why light rooms you are not in~!
ReplyDeleteThat's scary! I've had them walk in before. Thankful for dogs!
ReplyDeleteThankful you're OK.
ReplyDeleteThats as good as the peeping tom I came face to face with!!!!
ReplyDeletegoodness gracious...that can be quite unnerving! we had an experience early this morning when we heard and saw two guys in a car shooting at a deer from the road in front of our house..quite frightening. took them about thirty minutes of traveling up and down the road and jumping in and out of the property across the road from our house but they eventually were seen dragging the poor deer over the barbed wire and stuffing it into the trunk of the car. they saw my husband drive off and approached my house. they identified themselves as a neighbors grandsons- i told them that they were trespassing and hunting illegally as well. about fifteen minutes after they left their grandmother called us. told her the same thing. (although nicely-she is a nice old lady). i did not turn them in to the law but i will tell you that it sure put my nerves on edge...cause this was not someone spotlighting-this was real shooting and killing in broad daylight practiclly in my front yard-with me watching in horror from my kitchen window. i am taking this as a warning of what may come in future days..people are hungry and they dont care what they have to do to get food...and we are not immune from those who live outside of our normally safe, quiet homestead in the boonies. caryn n.e.ms
ReplyDeleteYet more evidence of the rise in crime -even in the rural areas. We've had a lot of crime here lately (central, mostly rural Maine) too--robbing houses for money and meds. Funny thing about people who haven't got to work for a living and live off the dole--they have no respect for things others have, and they have plenty of time to get up to crap like this.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty scary. Good thing you are at home and the robber fled and change his mind. Crime rates nowadays are rising. We should be on guard all the time and be careful always.
